Elevate Basketball Academy opened the Albuquerque Salsa Slam Friday night with a tough matchup against one of the top programs in the region — the WTX Bullets out of Lubbock, Texas.

From the opening tip, the Bullets’ size and physicality proved to be a challenge. EBA played hard but struggled to find rhythm offensively against a relentless defensive effort. Despite flashes of strong play and continued hustle from the Elevate roster, WTX controlled the pace from start to finish, handing EBA a 77-29 loss in the tournament opener.

Buster Salazar led EBA with 8 points, while Mateo Montoya and Cisco Chavez each added 7. Cruz Berkshire contributed 5 points and remained active on both ends of the floor.

EBA will look to bounce back and reset quickly as they resume pool play Saturday morning at 9:00 AM against the Hawkeyes NM.

Plenty of basketball left to play — and EBA is ready to respond.
